Pediatric Speech Therapy Services

CTSPS provides evaluations as well as articulation therapy, tongue-thrust therapy, voice therapy and language therapy to address a variety of childhood communication disorders.

Pragmatic/Social Language Disorders

Difficulty with the functional and socially appropriate use of language including understanding and using nonverbal communication, inference, humor, abstract language and conversational rules.


An interruption in the flow or rhythm of speech characterized by hesitations, repetitions, or prolongations of sounds, syllables, words, and phrases.

Articulation Disorders

Difficulties with the way sounds are formed and strung together, usually characterized by substituting one sound for another, omitting a sound, or distorting a sound.

Feeding Disorders

Difficulty gathering and manipulating food or liquid for sucking, chewing, or swallowing, affect one’s ability to maintain adequate nutritional intake while safely consuming food or liquids.

Voice Disorders

Characterized by inappropriate pitch (too high, too low, or monotonous pitch); loudness (too loud or not loud enough); or quality (harsh, hoarse, breathy, or nasal).

Language Disorders

Characterized by atypical or lack of development of vocabulary, grammar, and social communication skills needed to express and understand thoughts and ideas.

Vocal Cord Dysfunction

Caused by the discoordinated and/or incomplete opening of the vocal cords, resulting in symptoms such as chronic cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, "wheezing", light-headedness, and difficulty swallowing.

Myofunctional Disorders

Also known as tongue thrusting; caused by abnormal pressure on the tongue against the teeth during swallowing, resulting in problems with articulation and dental misalignment.
